That's not my teddy...by Fiona Watt

That's not my teddy is by Fiona Watt and is illustrated by Rachel Wells. This book belongs to a series of Usborne Touchy Feely books. Bella currently owns one from the series and as she is growing up so quickly (sigh!) I did not think of purchasing another one, but who knows, maybe I will in the near future.

This book uses a combination of repetition, "that's not my teddy..." and a collection of different fabrics and textures. This is a great way to engage younger readers and allow them to touch and explore the different textures. As they grow older the use of repetition and adjectives used to describe each texture will help them to form their own words and sentences in relation to the book and other things. This is a useful tool for developing language and sensory skills.

Bella used to enjoy this book more when she was younger, now she flicks through it with me very quickly and chooses something else to read. I would say it is best suited for much younger children, perhaps under 16 months. With that said if your child is older than 16 months and enjoys reading this book with you still, then that is great too!

With love,
