The Role Of The Mother

In a previous post I spoke about the purpose of a Mother, you can view that post here Before reading this post head to the purpose of a Mother so that you can have a breakdown of what faith filled Motherhood looks like. You might be familiar with the popular verse:

"Train up a child in the way he should go: and when he is old, he will not depart from it." - Proverbs 22:6. "

In this scripture we know that God is calling us to train up our children in the way that they need to go, so that when they become mature adults these morals and standards will be well established with them. Have you ever come across some individuals in life who have particular habits which they may find difficult to break away from? Now they may or may not be particularly ’bad’ habits, but they are habits that these individuals desire to eradicate. It takes time and it will also take perseverance, this much can be said about raising children and in this case doing as the bible has called us to do “train up a child.”

The role of the Mother is not just as being caregivers, sending them to school and tending to their physical, emotional and mental needs. Our roles go much deeper than that because as Mothers God chose to bless us with extra special blessings when He allowed us to become Mothers. Striving to ensure that we tend to our children’s needs on a deeper level and teaching them about God will help them to thrive as they grow. They will learn of the greatness of God through us, isn’t that amazing?!

"That they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children." - Titus 2:4.

As we pray for our child(ren) we can always remember to cover them deeply in prayer by remembering the different areas we would like God to work on. Some of the things I would encourage you to pray about are (in no particular order):

  1. Their mental wellbeing.

  2. Their physical wellbeing.

  3. Their relationship with God.

  4. Rebuking the spirit of fear and timidity.

  5. Encouraging them to fulfil their God given purpose.

  6. Using their talent(s) to please and serve God.

  7. Protection.

  8. Their choice of friends.

  9. Education.

  10. Honesty.

Can you think of any other areas to pray about?

I think that Motherhood in general although challenging at times is a very rewarding and promising experience. We will not be paid for all that we do, but our child(ren) will one day serve as part of our greatest testimony because through it all we refused to give up. I have spoken to countless amounts of Mothers, some who have told me how difficult it is raising a child alone, others who have said they find it hard when their partners are not there and they are drained, sometimes it is like that, but God IS our strength!

"I will lift up mine eyes unto the hills, from whence cometh my help. My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth." - Psalm 121:1-2.

Trying to do everything alone without God will work against you and not with you! You have your greatest supply of all that you need in God. There have been many times for me where I too have had my moments, but when it gets like that I cling tighter to God because I know that only He can help me. There are times I may have doubted myself and God has used someone else to encourage me because that is how God works. He will always send someone or something to serve as a reminder that He has already equipped you with all that you need to be a wonderful Mother. I do not want you to forget just how important you are, without you, your child(ren) would not be here and without God you would not be all that they need. You are enough and you always will be.

Sometimes we may doubt ourselves and think that we are not good enough or we do not know what we are doing, but God knows your capabilities and your limitations hence why He allowed you to be a Mother. You can do all that He has given you to do and you can be all that He will have you be.

Be encouraged and stay blessed!

With Love,

Roxanne-Sasha x
